This is another of the post-Civil War African-American Parrott families. The patriarch, name unknown, must have been born right after the war ended. All known issue come from his son, Pinkney. A second African American family traces back to nearby Mansfield, but if there is a relationship, it remains unknown. As is the case all too often with African American families, their early years are very poorly documented. A lot of family reconstruction still needs to be done. Pinkney married Pauline York McDaniel. Pauline was born on 4 Mar 1891 in Louisiana and died on 16 Jan 1981 in Fresno, Fresno Co., California at age 89.

General Notes: Had a daughter Johnetta from a previous marriage.

General Notes: J.B. Parrott was born August 30, 1920 in Shreveport, LA to parents Pauline and Pinkney (Jim) Parrott. He was the youngest of 5 children. His parents soon moved to Mesquite, TX where he spent his formative years. Schooling was sporadic at best because "the fields had to be tended to."

On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed. Although he'd never heard of Pearl Harbor, on January 13, 1942 he raised his right hand and joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

At wars end, he eventually settled in Stockton, CA working at Sharpe Army Depot until he retired in 1983.

Jay, as he was affectionately known, loved his family until the end, and he will be missed by most.

He was a humble man but touched many lives.

J.B. Parrott is preceded in death by both parents, all his siblings; sister, Johnetta Hunter of Shreveport, LA, sister, Augustine Lacy of Fresno, CA, brother, Pinkney (Joe) Parrott of Fresno CA, and sister, Doris (Waheeda) Reed of Sacramento, CA, and his wife, Grace Parrott.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Parrott, and Anthony Parrott (Coeva) both of Stockton, CA, and Charles Spearman of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Pamela Corbin (Mike) of Antioch, CA, Shante Livingston (Monique) of Stockton, CA, Anthony Parrott, Jr., of Stockton, CA, and Larry Chambers of Stockton, CA, and Rachel Bristol of Escalon; four great-granddaughters; Arianna Parrott and Trinity Parrott and Shawntell Livingston of Stockton, CA; and Arrington Corbin of Antioch, CA; two great-grandsons; Roman Livingston and Jace Livingston of Stockton, CA, two nieces; Janice (Aaliyah) Hall and Elaine Parrott, both of Sacramento, two nephews; Kenneth (Hiram) Hall and Ronnie (Abdul) Holiday, both of Sacramento and a host of great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews who will continue in his memory.

Johnnie married Grace L. Hendrix on 12 Mar 1968 in Stanislaus Co., California. Grace was born on 8 Jan 1929 in Missouri and died on 30 Mar 2004 in Stockton, San Joaquin Co., California at age 75.
